Our Heritage

LaFontaine Chevrolet Buick GMC of St. Clair is one of the newest to join the LaFontaine Automotive Group, officially joining the family in 2021. The LaFontaine legacy runs even deeper, with Michael LaFontaine launching his career in the auto industry in the 1960s when he started selling Volkswagen models. He spent a decade with that dealership, learning the ropes of the business and dreaming of opening a dealership with his name on the marquee.

Michael saw his dream come true in 1980 when he opened a Toyota dealership in Dearborn. He knew that Michigan's bustling automotive landscape meant he needed to offer something unique, so he built a family-friendly dealership and provided a personalized automotive experience. By 1984, those dreams reached a new level when Michael's wife, Maureen, opened a second dealership in Milford. Maureen's leadership skills and passion for serving others set new benchmarks for excellence, with Maureen selling more vehicles in her first month than the dealership's previous year.

Over the years, Michael and Maureen welcomed their children, Ryan and Kelley, into the family business. Like their father, Ryan and Kelley learned the ropes of the family business and earned their way into leadership positions. By 21, Ryan was named Sales Manager of the flagship GM store in Highland, and he immediately set his sights on becoming the leading volume dealer in the nation—a lofty goal for a Michigan dealership. Even so, Ryan never faltered and ushered the dealership to national recognition within a decade: LaFontaine Automotive Group was named the leading Pontiac, Buick, Cadila, and GMC dealer for numerous years, also earning GM's highest accolade as the Dealer of the Year.
